Table of Contents
The Path of Legends leaderboard is a great place to consistently find the best players and to see how they adapt to the meta. Every first Monday of a month, the season ends and a new one begins. While players are competing to reach the top, we are tracking their results and deck choices.
With this blog, we present a summary and a few insights of all the data that we collected during the last days of the season. If you want to find full decks, we published another blog a few days ago covering that; this blog mainly looks at card stats.
Given that we had balance changes at the start of this season, these stats will be representative of the previous meta instead of the current one.
Main Stats Format
In most of the following sections, we'll share stats in tables with this format:
These stats are based on the decks and card collections of the best players, the ones who finished among the top 1,000 players in Path of Legends (PoL).
- Usage refers to the share of players who used the card in their main deck.
- Average Rank is the mean of all the placements from players who used this card. The center point is 500, so if the value is below 500, it means the card is quite good.
- Have It Maxed refers to the share of players who have that card at Level 15, which is the ideal level to compete in PoL. The companion bar chart also shows the amount of players who have this card at Level 14 in light blue. If the light blue range is wide, it implies that a lot of players don't consider this card worthy to spend Elite Wild Cards on it, because EWCs are a scarce resource.
- Usage/Maxed (U/M) shows the amount of players who use a card from those that have it maxed. Some cards can be harder to unlock and level up, so usage may not be a good indicator if it's being held down by other factors.
Due to the nature of the ladder system, card winrates aren't useful to understand the strength of a card. We think a mix of the stats listed above can paint a more accurate picture of the state of each card.
Tower Troops
This is the first season in which Cannoneer's usage was higher than Tower Princess'.
Since Magic Items became a way to upgrade Tower Troops, the paywall to upgrade them has almost disapeared. It's likely that this increased access reveals the real strength of the new TTs, so we wouldn't be surprised to see them nerfed with the May balance changes.
Evolutions
This is the first season in wich absolutely all the decks of the leaderboard had at least 1 evolution. Zap was a popular card among the one-tricks that resisted the decks with evolutions, so as soon as it was released, they joined the dark (elixir) side.
Bomber remains the most popular evolution for the second season in a row, and it's closely followed by Zap, the new evolution that was avalailable through IAP.
The Zap Evolution has a deceptively high U/M because it was one of the boosted cards of the season, so players didn't have to level it up to use it.
Another interesting way to look at evolutions is to see how many players have unlocked them. Let's look at the Top 10,000 players:
This time the 2 released evolutions had very similar popularity. Tesla was unlocked by 39% of players, and Zap by 37%.
Champions
Little Prince remains as the most popular Champion. This season Mighty Miner had a better average rank than LP.
Overall, decks without champions are a majority, more than 50%. But the the average rank shows that they are underperforming when compared with LP and Might Miner.
Spells
Arrows remains the most popular spell, and will probably remain at the top as long as Evolved Bomber remains this popular.
Win Conditions
Lastly, win conditions are one of the best ways to look at archetype performance.
All Cards
If you want to find out about other cards that weren't included in any of the previous categories, here's a full list with every card in the game, sorted by usage in the leaderboard.
