State of the Meta - Cards and Decks for February to March 2023
We look at the last decks played by the Top 1000 players and find out what they used most.

The February 2023 season has just finished and we now have fresh new stats from Top Ranked battles (Path of Legends: Ultimate Champion League).
We’ll take a look at all the cards that perform well, provide representative decks for all of them. For the first time ever, we’ll also provide a chart that shows changes compared to the previous meta in December 2022.
Raw data for these charts are available at the end of the post as CSV files.

Introduction
You can use our Cards section to observe card usage throughout the season. For analyses in this series, we focus specifically on the last deck that the players use to complete their season. It goes hand-in-hand with our Leaderboard Decks feature. Or more specifically, these are the cards from the Season 2023-02 Leaderboard Decks.
As with previous analysis, we have provided data for both Top 1000 and Top 200 because some of the professional players prefer to see Top 200 results while we feel that Top 1000 provide a more holistic view of the meta.

Analysis: Overview
If you don’t remember how we got here, here’s a refresher of the most recent balance changes:
While we had a really balanced season before this balance, we can’t say the same for the current meta. Of note, Archers have been significantly over buffed (intentionally), so we’re seeing a huge boost in her popularity. Because of the significant nerf of the Rocket and Archer Queen, both of these popular cards have gone down in usage drastically.
Through these buffs and nerfs, we’re seeing Miner Poison making a huge comeback. In fact, it‘s the dominant archetype for the accounts that finished in top 10.
Besides Miner Poison, we’re seeing a huge boost to Wall Breakers. This card is now the top win conditions for both Top 200 and Top 1000.
This change is particularly notable when you look at the chart below which shows the change in usage between this meta and the previous one:

These charts compare the meta in season 2022-12 vs season 2023-02. The arrows follow the change from before (December 2022) to after (February 2023).
- Green arrows: usage increase
- Purple arrows: usage decrease
- Numbers: usage
- Longer arrows: bigger change
- Shorter arrows: smaller change
Win Conditions
It’s insane that Wall Breakers have such huge jump in usage — both for players in Top 200 and Top 1000. Royal Giant and Graveyard both decrease in usage quite a bit. Goblin Barrel saw a huge decrease in usage likely because Rocket is most usually used in Log Bait decks.
All Cards
When we look at all the cards, the benefit of this range chart should be clearer.
Zooming in for a closer look, we see Archers usage increasing by more than ten-fold! Archer Queen and Rocket usage tanked by more than half.

Most Popular Cards
Troops
The most popular troop for the February 2023 season is Archers, followed closely by Miner, Phoenix, and Goblins.
Spells
The Log usage has gone down drastically due to the nerf, but remains the most popular small spell. Arrows increased in usage drastically, now with similar usage as The Log.
Fireball remains the dominant big spell, though Poison closely follows behind.
